Suspension Bridge over the Ping River at a Glance#
About Suspension Bridge over the Ping River#
This footbridge was built in 1982 to celebrate the Bangkok bicentennial. Ironically, that year also marks the bicentenary of the demise of King Taksin, Tak’s local hero, who moved the capital of Siam to Thonburi, after which it was moved across the river to Bangkok by Rama I.
The bridge is a good spot to visit in the evening, when it is illuminated and there are often fine sunsets over the hills to the west of town. Otherwise it is a pleasant place for a bit of exercise, as it is 400 metres long, to gaze down over the river or simply to get some fresh air. Another reason to come in the evening is that food stalls selling all kinds of goodies set up along the road beside the bridge from about 6pm.
