Most international travelers arrive via Juba International Airport (JUB), the main entry point for South Sudan and the airport tied to Juba, the country’s administrative heart on the White Nile. Juba is also where flights connect with the widest range of services and the largest embassy and NGO presence.
Beyond the capital, Malakal International Airport (MAK) and Wau Airport (WUU) matter for reaching major regional centers. MAK serves Malakal, a major river town and historical trade center on the White Nile in the Upper Nile region. WUU serves Wau, South Sudan, a regional hub in Bahr el Ghazal with markets and limited services.
With only a small number of airports with scheduled commercial service, domestic flying mainly supports access between Juba and places like Malakal and Wau when seasonal conditions affect overland travel. Elsewhere, movement can hinge on river routes such as boat access into the Sudd and to communities along the White Nile.
