Representative figures from each country's largest city. High / low are average daily temperatures (°C); “Feels” allows for humidity.

Northwestern Drylands (Pakistan, Punjab & Rajasthan, Gujarat)

June brings the first taste of monsoon influence and dramatic pre-monsoon thunderstorms, though the northwest receives much less rain than India’s west coast: rains come late and sporadically to northern Punjab and Gujarat, while Rajasthan remains largely dry. Night temperatures fall slightly after evening downpours, and dust can settle after thunderstorms. For visitors, monsoon-slick roads in low-lying districts and sudden cloudbursts can disrupt plans; carry a light rain shell and allow buffer time for travel. Some heritage sites are quieter as domestic tourism slows.

The Indo‑Gangetic Plain & Bengal Coast (Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Bangladesh)

By July the monsoon has usually arrived in full force across West Bengal, Bangladesh and much of the Gangetic plain: sustained heavy rain, high humidity and swollen rivers are typical, with urban flooding possible in Dhaka and Kolkata. Many rural roads become difficult and some cultural sites can be less accessible; however, the countryside turns vivid green and rice planting is in full swing. Expect slower travel times, bring waterproofs, and plan indoor activities or boat travel where appropriate.

Nepal & Bhutan (Himalayan lowlands to high passes)

June usually marks the arrival of the monsoon across Bhutan and Nepal’s lower flanks: rain becomes persistent at lower altitudes, and frequent downpours make lowland sightseeing damp and increase landslide risk on mountain roads. High-altitude areas remain drier for a while, but trekking is harder as trails turn muddy and tea-house access can be interrupted. Travelers shifting to cultural visits should expect fewer crowds and lower prices, but add time buffers to itineraries and avoid marginal passes.

Northeast India & the Eastern Himalaya (Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Arunachal, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram)

June enters the full monsoon: the eastern Himalaya and Meghalaya record some of the highest rainfall on Earth-persistent downpours, saturated soils and frequent landslips are common. Wildlife safaris and river travel are often suspended in flooded reaches, and many rural trails become slippery. For photographers and botanists the landscape is dramatic; for general travelers the month is challenging and best avoided unless you have local transport and flexibility. Carry sturdy boots and be ready for long transit times.

Peninsular India & the Western Ghats plus Sri Lanka (Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Goa, Andhra, Telangana, Sri Lanka)

June ushers in the southwest monsoon for Kerala and the western Ghats-heavy rains drench Munnar, the Malabar coast and Goa’s inland hills, while eastern coasts remain drier for a while. Monsoon transforms hill roads and waterfalls into spectacular cascades but can disrupt some hill-trail access and ferry schedules. This is a dramatic time for Ayurvedic and monsoon tourism in Kerala, and diving shifts to sheltered spots; pack a good waterproof and expect scenic, rain-lashed landscapes. Hotel crowds thin outside monsoon-specialist resorts.

Maldives & Lakshadweep (Indian Ocean atolls)

June falls squarely into the wetter monsoon period: frequent tropical showers and stronger winds make sea conditions less predictable and some outer atoll excursions may be curtailed. Resort life continues but with a more relaxed tempo and fewer tourists; water sports operators run a reduced schedule. If you’re chasing solitude and lower prices, this month is attractive, though prepare for regular rain and possible transfer delays. Bring sturdy waterproof bags and expect soggy, lush island foliage.
