Södermalm sits south of the historic city centre on an island of steep streets, parks and quays. Daytime attractions include SoFo’s independent shops and vintage stores along Folkungagatan, cosy cafés around Mariatorget and the photography museum scene near Stadsgårdskajen. Monteliusvägen and the cliffs above Slussen offer some of the best skyline views across the water to Gamla Stan.

At night Södermalm loosens up: intimate bars, pub terraces and live-music venues fill the lanes off Götgatan and Hornsgatan, while Mosebacke’s terrace draws a crowd in summer. The area feels informal and safe, popular with locals and international travellers who want to stay somewhere less polished than the Old Town but full of character.
