How to Get to Sigulda
Sigulda is a popular day-trip from Riga and is best accessed via Riga International Airport (RIX) with a train or bus from Riga Central Station. Trains are frequent and convenient for visitors heading straight to the Gauja valley.
Riga International Airport (RIX): The main airport for Sigulda. From RIX you can take bus 22 or a direct airport shuttle to Riga city centre (about €2-3, 25-30 minutes), then a train or bus to Sigulda (see card 2). A taxi from RIX to Riga centre costs roughly €15-25 (20-30 minutes).
Alternative airports: For some connections you might fly into Tallinn or Kaunas and continue by bus/coach to Latvia; these options add considerable travel time and usually only make sense for multi-stop itineraries.
Train: Pasažieru vilciens runs regular trains from Riga Central Station (Rīga Centrālā dzelzceļa stacija) to Sigulda; the trip takes about 50-70 minutes and fares are around €1.80-3. Trains are comfortable and drop you close to the town centre and Gauja National Park entrances.
Bus: Buses depart from Riga’s central bus station to Sigulda with similar journey times (~1-1.25 hours) and fares roughly €2-5. Buses are frequent and can be the best choice if train times don’t suit you.
How to Get Around Sigulda #
Sigulda is compact enough for walking in the main town and castle areas, though some attractions are spread across the Gauja valley and require short drives. Regular trains and buses connect Sigulda with Riga (about 50-70 minutes by train). Local taxis and seasonal tourist shuttles help reach hilltop viewpoints and adventure parks.
