How to Get to Saulkrasti
Saulkrasti is a coastal town north of Riga; the obvious gateway is Riga Airport (RIX) with onward rail or bus connections to the seaside. Local suburban trains and regional buses provide straightforward, low‑cost links to Riga.
Riga Airport (RIX): Riga is the primary airport for Saulkrasti, about 30-40 km to the south. From RIX you can take a direct shuttle, taxi or public bus to Riga city centre (20-30 minutes) and then continue by train or suburban bus to Saulkrasti. Taxi rides RIX→Saulkrasti take ~35-50 minutes and cost roughly €35-60; using the airport→Riga link then rail is cheaper.
Liepaja / Tallinn (seasonal/less practical): There are no major airports closer than Riga for regular international services; regional or seasonal flights to smaller Latvian airports are possible but usually require onward ground travel to Riga first.
Train: Pasažieru Vilciens operates suburban trains on the Riga-Skulte line that stop at Saulkrasti station(s) (Saulkrasti has several stops along the coast such as Saulkrasti and Skulte nearby). The commuter train from Riga Central Station takes roughly 45-60 minutes; single fares are low (around €1.50-3.00 depending on ticket type).
Bus / Coach: There are also regional buses from Riga (Riga Central Bus Station) toward Saulkrasti and neighbouring resorts; journey time is around 50-75 minutes and fares are similarly low (a few euros). Buses are frequent in summer when the coast is busy.
How to Get Around Saulkrasti #
Saulkrasti is a linear, coastal town that’s pleasant to walk along the beach and through the main center in summer. Local distances are best covered on foot, by bicycle or by rented e-scooter in season; trains and regional buses connect Saulkrasti with Riga and other coastal settlements. Typical short bus or train rides to nearby towns cost a few euros; summer taxis and bike rentals are widely available but pricier on peak days. If you plan to explore the coast, allow extra time during summer traffic and book transport ahead for weekends.
