Sándor Palace (Sándor-palota) is a neoclassical palace on Castle Hill in Budapest’s Buda Castle district, on the approach to the Royal Palace and near Matthias Church.

The building dates to the early 19th century and was constructed for the Sándor family; it was damaged during World War II and underwent extensive restoration in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

Since restoration it has been used to house the official offices and residence of the President of Hungary and is a focal point for state ceremonies and formal receptions.

The palace stands on the Buda side of Budapest within the historic castle complex, overlooking the Danube and close to Fisherman’s Bastion and other Buda Castle landmarks.

Sándor Palace sits on the Buda Castle grounds immediately above the Széchenyi Chain Bridge (Clark Ádám tér). From central Deák Ferenc tér (served by metro lines M1, M2 and M3) walk across the Chain Bridge to Clark Ádám tér, then either walk uphill about 5-10 minutes to the palace or take the Castle Hill funicular (Budavári Sikló) from Clark Ádám tér to the Buda Castle area - the palace is a very short walk from the upper funicular station. By car it is in the central Buda Castle zone (short drive from any central Budapest location).

• Check the Presidential Office website before you go - public access to Sándor Palace is limited to occasional guided tours and open days, so book well in advance when tours are announced.
• Arrive early in the morning and approach from the Buda Castle forecourt (Szent György tér side) for the clearest, least crowded views and the best photographic angles of the palace façade.
• Combine a visit with the rest of the Castle District to avoid repeat trips; many visitors focus on Fisherman's Bastion and miss the palace's detailed exterior ornamentation and nearby informational plaques explaining its history.
