How to Get to Ruše#
Ruše is easiest reached via Maribor (local) or Ljubljana (national) airports; Maribor is the closest rail hub. Allow extra time for the final short transfer from Maribor into Ruše by local bus or taxi.
Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport (MBX): A small regional airport near Maribor with limited scheduled services. From Maribor city centre you can take a local bus or taxi to nearby Ruše; local buses cost around €2-€3 and take ~20 minutes, taxis ~€10-€15 and 10-15 minutes.
Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU): Slovenia’s main international airport (about 140 km from Ruše). From LJU take the direct airport shuttle or bus to Ljubljana centre (≈€6-€9, 30-40 min) then intercity train or bus to Maribor (trains ~€9-€15, 2.5-3 hrs). From Maribor the local bus or a short taxi will reach Ruše (see above).
Train: The nearest major rail hub is Maribor railway station (Maribor, Glavna postaja). Trains run from Ljubljana to Maribor in about 2.5-3 hours; regional fares commonly fall in the €9-€15 range. From Maribor you can catch local/regional trains or buses toward Ruše or take a short taxi.
Bus: Regional buses connect Maribor and nearby towns directly to Ruše; single fares are typically €2-€4 and journeys are 15-30 minutes depending on route. Intercity buses from Ljubljana or Ljubljana Airport to Maribor take about 2.5-3 hours and then you transfer to a local bus or taxi.
How to Get Around Ruše#
Get into the region via Maribor (closest) or Ljubljana (more flight options) and finish the trip by local bus or a short taxi from Maribor. For most visitors the best balance of cost and convenience is train/bus into Maribor plus a short taxi or regional bus to Ruše.
- Regional bus (€2-€4) - Local buses link Maribor with Ruše several times daily. Buses are the most economical way to reach the town centre; service frequency is decent on weekdays but can be limited on weekends and public holidays. Bring exact change or buy tickets at the station when possible.
- Train (to Maribor) (€9-€15) - Intercity trains to Maribor are reliable and comfortable and are the best choice from Ljubljana or farther afield. From Maribor you switch to a local bus or taxi for the last short leg to Ruše. Book longer-distance tickets in advance for lower fares.
- Taxi / Ride-hail (€10-€20) - Taxis provide the fastest door-to-door option from Maribor airport or station to Ruše (10-20 minutes). Expect modest fares for the short distances - convenient if you have luggage or arrive late.
- Car hire (€30+/day) - Hiring a car at Ljubljana or Maribor is useful if you plan to explore the surrounding countryside. Roads are good and parking in Ruše is straightforward; fuel and tolls are additional costs to factor in.
- Cycling - For local travel around Ruše and along the Drava river, cycling is practical in good weather and gives access to scenic routes. Bike rentals are limited-check Maribor for rental options.
- Walking - The village centre of Ruše is compact and easily walkable; most sights, shops and cafés are within a short stroll. Walking is pleasant in fair weather and often quicker than waiting for a bus for very short hops.
