Rivas is reached overland from Managua (MGA); intercity buses and private transfers are the standard options. There is no practical passenger rail service for this route.
Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (MGA, Managua): Managua is the main international airport for Nicaragua. From Managua to Rivas you continue by road: buses and private transfers take roughly 2-3 hours depending on traffic and route.
Liberia (Costa Rica) / Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR): Travelers crossing the Nicaragua-Costa Rica border sometimes fly into Liberia and continue north by road; border crossing times vary and require paperwork.
Train: Nicaragua has no national passenger rail service suitable for travel to Rivas.
