Qusayr 'Amra

Qusayr ‘Amra is an early Umayyad desert palace in eastern Jordan notable for its richly painted interior frescoes and well-preserved bathhouse. It is a key example of early Islamic secular architecture and mural art.

Constructed in the early 8th century during the Umayyad period as a desert retreat or hunting lodge, the complex was later abandoned and partially buried until archaeological work exposed and conserved the frescoed interiors. Its artistic program provides insight into early Islamic visual culture.

Situated in a remote area of eastern Jordan, the site stands alone amid semi-arid landscape and is accessed by road from nearby towns and the national highway.
