How to Get to Porto Ercole
Porto Ercole is best reached by train to Orbetello followed by a local bus or taxi, or by car from Rome or Pisa. The Monte Argentario peninsula has seasonal bus services; taxis or a rental car are easiest for flexible travel around the promontory.
Rome Fiumicino (FCO): The most convenient international airport for visiting Porto Ercole on Monte Argentario. From Fiumicino drive time is about 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes to Porto Ercole depending on traffic; train services from Fiumicino to Orbetello and then a short bus or taxi complete the journey.
Pisa Galileo Galilei (PSA) / Rome Ciampino (CIA): Pisa is farther but possible; travel involves a longer rail or road transfer. For quicker regional flights consider Grosseto airport (GRS) when available, then a short drive or taxi to Porto Ercole.
Train: The nearest railway station is Orbetello-Monte Argentario on the Rome-Grosseto line. From Orbetello station take a local bus (ATC) or taxi to Porto Ercole - the bus ride is about 20-30 minutes depending on route and stops.
Bus: Local buses connect Orbetello, Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole around the Monte Argentario peninsula. Buses are the main public transport on the peninsula; frequency is higher in summer. Taxis are useful for direct transfers or off-peak arrivals.

Porto Ercole is compact and very walkable-most visitors get around on foot, especially within the harbour and old town. Local buses connect Porto Ercole with Orbetello and nearby coastal towns, but schedules are more frequent in summer. Parking can be limited near the waterfront in high season, so arriving early or using local buses is advisable. Taxis exist but can be scarce off-season; scooters are a popular rental option for exploring the peninsula.
