How to Get to Giglio Castello

Giglio Castello is a hill village on Isola del Giglio (Giglio Island) reached by ferry from Porto Santo Stefano on the Tuscan mainland. The nearest major airports are Pisa (PSA) and Rome (FCO/CIA); reach Porto Santo Stefano by car, coach or a combination of train-plus-bus, then take the ferry to the island.

By Air

Pisa International Airport (PSA): Pisa is one of the nearer international gateways to Giglio Castello; from Pisa it’s roughly a 2-3 hour drive to Porto Santo Stefano (Monte Argentario) depending on route and traffic. From Porto Santo Stefano you take the ferry to Isola del Giglio (see below).

Rome Fiumicino (FCO) / Rome Ciampino (CIA): Rome airports are frequently used to reach Giglio. By car or coach it’s about 2.5-4 hours to Porto Santo Stefano depending on traffic and which airport you use. From there you continue to the island by ferry.

By Train & Bus

Train: The closest useful mainline stations are Grosseto and Orbetello-Monte Argentario on the Rome-Grosseto line. From Grosseto or Orbetello you can take a local bus or taxi to Porto Santo Stefano (Monte Argentario); train times to Grosseto from Pisa or Rome vary from about 1-2 hours depending on connections.

Bus / Ferry: Ferries to Isola del Giglio depart from Porto Santo Stefano and are operated by companies such as Toremar and Maregiglio. Crossing time is about 30-60 minutes depending on the service; one-way fares are commonly in the €10-€20 range (season and service dependent). Local buses or taxis connect train stations to Porto Santo Stefano (journeys of 20-45 minutes).

How to Get Around Giglio Castello #

Giglio Castello is a compact medieval village on Isola del Giglio; most streets are pedestrian-only and the center is very walkable. Ferries connect the island with Porto Santo Stefano on the mainland; timetables vary seasonally so check ahead.
