How to Get to Petrich
Petrich is reached mainly by bus; there is no direct passenger rail service into the town. Use Sofia or Thessaloniki as your arrival airport, then continue by scheduled intercity bus or a short cross‑border shuttle.
Sofia Airport (SOF): Sofia is the main international airport for reaching Petrich by public transport. From Sofia, long-distance buses (operated by companies on the Sofia-Petrich route) take about 2.5-3 hours; fares typically run BGN 15-25.
Thessaloniki Airport (SKG): Thessaloniki (Greece) can also be convenient for cross-border travellers - it is roughly 2-2.5 hours drive from Petrich. From the border at Kulata/Sidirokastro you can take local buses or taxis to Petrich (border crossing + onward local leg adds time).
Train: Petrich does not have a passenger railway connection; the nearest larger rail hubs are in Sandanski and Blagoevgrad, which require onward bus or taxi connections. Trains in the region are limited for direct access.
Bus: Buses are the primary public transport to Petrich. Long-distance buses run from Sofia (Central Bus Station) to Petrich in about 2.5-3 hours (BGN ~15-25) and regional minibuses/marshrutkas link Petrich to the Kulata border crossing and nearby towns (short hops BGN 3-6).
