Belasica is a mountain range in southeastern Europe that runs along the borders of Bulgaria, Greece and North Macedonia. The range comprises forested slopes, ridgelines and upland meadows and forms an important natural and historic frontier in the region.

Visitors to Belasica encounter hiking trails, small mountain villages and seasonal grazing landscapes; the slopes support mixed woodland and patches of open terrain used for outdoor recreation. The range also has historical significance, with medieval and later military events occurring in its passes and valleys.

Geographically Belasica lies where the Balkan Peninsula narrows between inland plains and the Aegean region, and it can be accessed from towns on all three national sides.

• Transboundary range: The range forms a cross-border natural frontier between Bulgaria, Greece and North Macedonia and has been a historic route of movement and conflict in the region.
• Outdoor opportunities: The area contains mixed forests, alpine meadows and hiking paths, making it a local destination for outdoor activities across national borders.

• Plan hikes for late spring to early autumn (when trails are clear and alpine flowers are out) and start early in the day to maximise visibility from the ridge and avoid afternoon thunderstorms.
• Access the massif from smaller border villages rather than main roads if you want quieter trails and better panoramic viewpoints; local trail maps and village trailheads typically lead to less-used routes.
