Simitli is easiest reached via Sofia: fly into Sofia Airport (SOF) and continue by rail or regional bus. The town sits on the Sofia-Kulata railway line and has frequent regional connections through Blagoevgrad.

By Air

Sofia Airport (SOF): From Sofia Airport take the M2 metro or bus 84 to Sofia Central / Serdika (metro ~1.60 BGN, 20-30 min). From Sofia Central you can catch BDZ regional or intercity trains on the Sofia-Kulata line that stop at Simitli (journey to Simitli typically takes around 2-2.5 hours; regional fares commonly range in the low BGN single digits to low teens depending on train type).

Plovdiv Airport (PDV) / Burgas (BOJ) (seasonal and indirect): These airports are farther away and require a combination of bus or train to Sofia or Blagoevgrad and onward rail/bus to Simitli; expect total travel times of 3+ hours from Plovdiv and much longer from Burgas. Use a domestic transfer to Sofia/Blagoevgrad first, then rail or regional bus services into Simitli.

By Train & Bus

Train: Simitli has a railway station on the Sofia-Kulata line (BDZ).
