Bansko City
Ski resort town in Bulgaria's Pirin Mountains
Skiers and hikers come for Pirin’s slopes and long chairlifts; cobbled Old Town hides mehanas dishing kapama and rakia. Summer brings mountain trails, night markets and a jazz festival that fills the taverns.
Why Visit Bansko?#
At the foot of the Pirin Mountains, Bansko appeals to skiers in winter and hikers in summer, centered on the modern slopes around Mount Vihren and access to Pirin National Park. The cobbled Old Town, 18th-century churches and traditional mehanas provide cultural contrast to après-ski life, with local specialties like banitsa and hearty mountain stews. Annual music and folklore events, including the Bansko Jazz Festival, reinforce the town’s mix of outdoor sport and cultural life.
