How to Get to Kresna#
Kresna is easiest reached by road - either from Sofia (via the Struma motorway) or from the Greek border - rather than by rail. Coaches serve the Struma valley but final travel is commonly by car or taxi.
Sofia Airport (SOF): The main international airport for western Bulgaria. Driving from Sofia to Kresna takes about 2-2.5 hours via the Struma motorway; car rental and taxis are available (taxis for this distance are relatively expensive). Flights into Sofia are the most convenient air option.
Thessaloniki Airport (SKG): Some travellers use Thessaloniki (Greece) for southern/border-area access - travel times by road are longer (usually 2.5-3.5 hours) and cross-border arrangements should be checked in advance.
Train: There is no major national rail station in Kresna itself; the nearest rail hubs are at larger towns on the Sofia-Kulata line. For many visitors the final approach is by road rather than rail.
Bus: Intercity buses and regional coaches run through the Struma valley and stop at larger nearby towns; from those hubs take a local bus or taxi the last miles to Kresna. Bus frequencies vary seasonally.
