How to Get to Pallisa#
Pallisa (Eastern Uganda) is a road-access town reached from Kampala or nearby regional centres; there is no commercial airport in town. Buses, minibuses and boda-bodas are the standard transport modes for arrival and local travel.
Entebbe / Kampala (EBB): Pallisa does not have a commercial airport; arrivals for the region typically fly into Entebbe International Airport (EBB) or domestic airstrips and continue by road. From Kampala or Entebbe the drive to Pallisa is roughly 3.5-5 hours by bus or car depending on route and stops.
Regional airfields: Smaller airstrips (e.g., Soroti) may be used for regional flights; if flying into Soroti, road transfer to Pallisa is shorter.
Bus / Matatu / minibus: Pallisa is reached mainly by road from Kampala and nearby regional towns. Public minibuses (matatus) and stage buses depart Kampala’s bus parks for the Mbale-Soroti corridors with onward connections to Pallisa; journey times are typically several hours depending on the route.
Motorbike taxis (boda-boda): Boda-bodas are widely used for short local journeys and for connections from bus stops into town centres.
How to Get Around Pallisa#
Pallisa is best reached by road from Kampala or regional hubs; matatus and minibuses are the normal public option, while private hires and boda-bodas cover comfort and last-mile needs within town.
- Intercity bus / minibus (matatu) (UGX 10,000-30,000) - Matatus and minibuses link Kampala and regional centres with Pallisa; they are frequent and affordable though schedules can be flexible. Expect journey times of several hours and to share space with stops for passengers and goods.
- Private taxi / hire (UGX 150,000+) - A private hire or taxi from Kampala or Soroti is faster and more comfortable than public minibuses and useful for groups or when carrying lots of luggage-book in advance where possible.
- Boda-boda (motorbike taxi) (UGX 500-5,000) - Boda-bodas are ubiquitous for local trips, short connections and routes not served by vehicles. They’re fast and inexpensive but require care regarding helmets and rider safety.
- Shared taxi (UGX 20,000-50,000) - Shared taxis operate between towns on key routes and can be quicker than minibuses if they depart promptly; prices are higher than matatus but still moderate.
- Walking - Pallisa town centre is compact and most local errands, markets and services are within walking distance once you arrive.
