Best Time to Visit Njeru #

The best time to visit Njeru is in the dry months (June-September and December-February) when roads, boat trips and wildlife viewing are most reliable. Expect heavy rains in March-May and October-November that can disrupt activities and raise humidity.

Long Rains
March - May · 19-29°C (66-84°F)
Frequent heavy rains, vivid green landscapes and swollen Nile-great for dramatic river scenery but expect muddy roads, intermittent boat schedules and more mosquitoes.
Short Rains
October - November · 20-30°C (68-86°F)
Short, intense showers punctuate sunny days; fewer crowds, lower prices, and good wildlife viewing between rain spells though rivers remain unpredictable for some water activities.
Dry Season
December - February; June - September · 17-31°C (63-88°F)
Clear skies, warm days and cooler nights make trekking, boating and wildlife spotting pleasant; peak season crowds appear but travel is most reliable and mosquito activity drops.

How to Get to Njeru

Njeru lies on the east bank of the Nile just next to Jinja, and most visitors arrive by road from Kampala or via Entebbe International Airport. Entebbe is the main international airport; from there you typically transfer by shuttle or taxi to Kampala and then take an intercity bus or minibus on to Jinja/Njeru.

By Air

Entebbe International Airport (EBB): Entebbe is the main international gateway for central and eastern Uganda. From Entebbe you can reach Njeru (near Jinja) by direct taxi/transfer, airport shuttle to Kampala and onward bus, or by hiring a private car. A private taxi or transfer from Entebbe to Njeru typically takes about 2.5-3.5 hours by road; expect fares in the region of 150,000-250,000 UGX for a single direct taxi (prices vary by operator). Alternatively, many travelers take a shuttle or taxi into Kampala (30-60 minutes, ~50,000-100,000 UGX) and then a bus or shared minibus from Kampala to Jinja/Njeru (see Bus below).

By Train & Bus

Train: Uganda currently has no regular, reliable passenger train service serving Njeru/Jinja; most rail lines in the country are used for freight and rehabilitation projects have been ongoing. For practical purposes, rail is not an option for getting into Njeru - use road services instead.

Bus: Regular intercity buses and shared minibuses (matatus/coasters) run between Kampala and Jinja, arriving at Jinja Bus Park or the Jinja town taxi park; many services continue on to stops in Njeru. Travel time from Kampala to Njeru is typically 1.5-3 hours depending on traffic and operator; fares commonly range around 8,000-15,000 UGX one-way. From Entebbe you can take a shuttle/taxi into Kampala and then catch a bus to Jinja, or look for direct coach services that stop at Jinja/Njeru from Entebbe (total journey 2.5-4 hours depending on connections).

How to Get Around Njeru

Njeru is best reached and navigated by road: intercity buses and shared minibuses link it to Kampala and Entebbe, while local mobility relies on boda-bodas and bajajs. For most visitors, a combination of an intercity bus or private transfer and short local boda-boda or bajaj rides works best for efficient travel.
