How to Get to Ntungamo
Ntungamo is a road‑access town best reached by coach or private car from Kampala or Mbarara; Entebbe (EBB) is the international gateway and Mbarara serves as the main regional air/road hub. Buses and private hires from Mbarara give the quickest overland access.
Entebbe International Airport (EBB): Uganda’s main international airport. From Entebbe to Ntungamo is a long road journey (often 6-8 hours) so most travellers fly onward to regional airfields or take a long‑distance coach. Entebbe→Kampala road links allow bus/coach connections onwards to Ntungamo.
Mbarara / Kihihi (regional airstrips): Mbarara has a small airport/airstrip used by some charter and scheduled domestic services; a flight into Mbarara plus a road transfer (about 1-2 hours) is a common way to reach Ntungamo when available.
Train: Uganda has no regular passenger rail service serving Ntungamo-rail is not a practical travel option here.
Bus / Coach: The principal way to reach Ntungamo is by coach from Kampala or Mbarara. Coaches and mini‑buses (matatus) run between Kampala, Mbarara and Ntungamo; journey times are approximately 5-8 hours from Kampala and 1-2 hours from Mbarara depending on service and road conditions. Fares vary by operator and comfort level.
How to Get Around Ntungamo #
Ntungamo town centre is compact and walkable for markets and services. The most common local transport are boda‑bodas (motorcycle taxis) and minibuses/matatus for regional connections to Mbarara and Kabale. Boda rides and short matatu trips are very affordable (often a few thousand Ugandan shillings); matatu and bus timetables can be informal so ask locals for the best departure points.
