Pleasant days and cool mornings with clear skies - ideal for getting around, market visits and village walks without the rain.
Hot Dry Season

By Air

Chileka / Blantyre (BLZ): Chileka is the closest major airport serving southern Malawi. From Chileka to Nsanje expect a road journey of roughly 2-3 hours (depending on traffic and border checks) by minibus or private taxi. Shared minibuses (buses) are the cheapest option; private taxis are faster but much more expensive.

Kamuzu / Lilongwe (LLW): Lilongwe is farther north; travel to Nsanje by road takes much longer (5-7+ hours) and usually involves an overland bus or private transfer.

By Train & Bus

Train: Malawi’s passenger rail network is limited and does not reliably serve Nsanje for regular passenger travel.

Bus: Long-distance buses and minibuses (basilistas/chapas) run from Blantyre and other regional hubs to Nsanje and nearby towns. Buses from Blantyre generally take around 2-3 hours; fares are low (a few US dollars or equivalent MWK), while private minibuses or taxis cost more.

How to Get Around Nsanje #

Nsanje’s town centre is walkable for short errands, but most people use minibuses, shared taxis or motorcycle taxis (boda-bodas) to get around. Regional buses link Nsanje to Blantyre and other southern towns for longer journeys. Fares are generally inexpensive; confirm prices before hopping on a boda-boda and keep small change for minibus drivers. Services can be irregular, so allow extra time for connections.
