How to Get to Lugazi
Lugazi, east of Kampala, is most easily reached by road from Entebbe or Kampala. Shared minibuses (matatus) are common and inexpensive; private taxis and shuttles are faster for door-to-door transfers.
Entebbe International Airport (EBB): Entebbe is Uganda’s main international airport and the most common arrival point for travellers bound for Lugazi. From Entebbe you can travel by road to Lugazi via Kampala-a typical journey is 1.5-3 hours depending on traffic and route.
Kampala (domestic options): There are no commercial airports closer than Entebbe for scheduled international arrivals.
Train: Uganda’s passenger rail services are limited and do not provide a reliable option for Lugazi; rail is not a practical choice.
Bus / matatu: Matatus (shared minibuses) and stage taxis run from Kampala to Lugazi frequently; expect travel times from Kampala of roughly 45-90 minutes depending on traffic and departure point. Buses depart from Kampala’s main stages into the eastern corridor.
How to Get Around Lugazi #
Lugazi is easy to get around on foot in the town centre; boda-bodas (motorcycle taxis) and taxis handle short trips, while minibuses and shared taxis connect Lugazi with Kampala and surrounding towns. If you plan to travel to Kampala, use the main highway services and allow extra time for traffic during peak hours. Negotiate fares with boda drivers before setting off.
