Murang'a is a short road journey from Nairobi and is best reached by matatu, coach or private car. There is no rail service; road transport is frequent and practical.

By Air

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), Nairobi: Nairobi is the main air gateway for visitors to Murang’a. From Nairobi you travel by road (matatu, coach or private transfer) to Murang’a; journey time is typically around 1.5-3 hours depending on traffic and departure point.

Wilson Airport (WIL): Wilson handles domestic flights and charter services; however Murang’a is much more commonly reached by road from Nairobi than by air.

By Train & Bus

Train: There is no direct passenger rail service to Murang’a. Kenya’s main passenger rail (SGR) runs on the Nairobi-Mombasa corridor and does not serve Murang’a.

Bus / Matatu: Matatus (shared minibuses) and scheduled coaches depart Nairobi for Murang’a from various terminals (e.g., Thika Road area/commuter parks). Travel time depends on traffic (often longer during peak hours); matatus are frequent and inexpensive.
