How to Get to Moscopole#
Moscopole (Voskopoja) is a historical village in Korçë County best reached overland from Tirana or Korçë. Albania’s main international airport is in Tirana; from there regional buses and shared minibuses connect to Korçë and onward to Moscopole.
Tirana International Nënë Tereza (TIA): The main international airport for Albania, located near Tirana. From TIA you can get a bus or taxi to Tirana city centre in about 20-30 minutes (bus ≈ALL 200-350 / ≈€2-€3; taxi ≈€15-€25), then continue by road toward Korçë region and Moscopole.
Ioannina Airport (IOA) - Greece: For some travelers crossing from Greece, Ioannina is an option; onward travel to Moscopole requires a combination of buses/taxis across the border and can take several hours.
Train: Albania’s rail network is limited and does not serve Moscopole directly; the practical rail hub is Tirana (limited services) or nearby Greek/Albanian railways which are not convenient for this village.
Bus / Minibus (furgon/mirobus): The most common approach is to take a bus or shared minibus from Tirana toward Korçë and then a local minibus or taxi to Moscopole (travel time Tirana→Korçë ≈3-4 hours; Korçë→Moscopole ≈30-60 minutes). Fares for Tirana→Korçë buses are usually modest (a few euros).

- Bus / Shared minibus (furgon) (ALL 300-1,200 (≈€3-€10)) - Shared minibuses (furgons) and regional buses link Tirana and Korçë; from Korçë you can catch local minibuses or taxis to Moscopole. Services can be frequent during daytime but less so on weekends; buy tickets at the station or the operator’s kiosk.
- Taxi / Private transfer (€30-€80 (depending on origin and negotiation)) - A private taxi from Tirana or Korçë to Moscopole is the most comfortable and fastest option, especially for groups or with luggage. Negotiate or agree a price in advance; travel times are a few hours from Tirana.
- Car (rental) (€30-€60/day) - Renting a car in Tirana gives full flexibility to explore Moscopole and the surrounding highlands. Roads improve closer to Korçë but can be narrow and winding; use caution in winter or heavy rain.
- Local buses in Korçë (ALL 100-500 (≈€1-€4)) - From Korçë there are local buses and minibuses to surrounding villages; they are cheap but sometimes irregular. Ask at the Korçë bus station for the latest departures to Moscopole or nearby stops.
- Cycling / Local biking (€0-€20/day (rental)) - For adventurous cyclists the hilly terrain offers challenging rides; distances between services mean carrying tools and supplies is essential. Summer heat and limited shade are factors to consider.
- Walking - Moscopole’s historic centre and nearby monasteries are best explored on foot. Paths can be steep and uneven; wear sturdy shoes and bring sun protection in summer.
