Adriatic Coast & Riviera (Ulcinj - Budva - Bar)

Peak summer in July brings sustained heat along Ulcinj and Bar, where highs frequently touch the low 30s Celsius and humidity can make the air feel thicker, especially in low-lying Ulcinj. Crowds are at their height-expect busy beaches, long wait times at popular seafront restaurants, and limited hotel availability without advance reservations. Sea temperatures commonly rise to the mid-20s C, perfect for swimming and water sports, but also pack a lightweight rain layer as late-afternoon thunderstorms occasionally bubble up inland and move out to sea.

Bay of Kotor & Herceg Novi (Kotor - Perast - Herceg Novi)

Crowds peak in July as sunny, hot days push into the mid-to-high 20s Celsius and the entire waterfront teems with visitors. Boat traffic on the bay increases dramatically, and smaller operators sometimes suspend service when the jugo or a sudden thunderstorm picks up. Expect full restaurants and limited room availability without advance reservations. Cala-lover photographers should aim for early-morning fortress climbs to avoid the midday heat and crowds, and carry plenty of water.

Lake Skadar & Podgorica Plain (Lake Skadar - Podgorica - Virpazar)

July is typically the year’s warmest month on the plain, with Podgorica frequently recording temperatures in the low to mid-30s Celsius-heatwaves can push highs higher for short spells. The lake offers cooling boat trips and swimming spots, but humid nights mean little relief at times. Rafting on the nearby Morača is limited by water levels; rafting and canyoning operators schedule around flows. Travelers should prioritize shade, hydration, and air-conditioned lodging during July’s peak heat.

Northern Highlands & Mountains (Durmitor - Žabljak - Prokletije - Tara Canyon)

July is the highlands’ warmest month but still cool compared with the lowlands: days are commonly in the high teens to low 20s Celsius with cool nights, ideal for multi-day treks and high-altitude camping. Mountain meadows are lush, and the lakes-Black Lake on Durmitor, for example-are pleasant for a post-hike dip if the sun has warmed them. Afternoon thunderstorms are frequent; hikers should descend to shelter early and be prepared for lightning. Book mountain huts in advance during peak season.
