About Misool

Misool is an island in the Raja Ampat archipelago of Southwest Papua, Indonesia, known for exceptionally high marine biodiversity and coral reef systems. It is one of the larger islands within the archipelago and a destination for experienced divers and marine conservation interest.

The island has long been inhabited by Papuan communities and more recently has been the focus of marine conservation and eco-tourism efforts aimed at protecting reefs and local livelihoods. Conservation and sustainable tourism initiatives have shaped access and visitor programs in the 21st century.

Situated in the central-western part of the Raja Ampat group off the northwest tip of New Guinea, Misool lies within Indonesia’s Southwest Papua province and is accessed by boat from other islands in the archipelago.
