About Mekong Discovery Trail#

The Mekong Discovery Trail is a project to create community-based eco-tourism adventures along the length of the Mekong River in Cambodia. Run from a main office in Kratie, it offers self-guided and locally guided day trips and overnight excursions covering nearly the whole river.

Visit the office or its website and you can pick up handy one-page itineraries explaining how to travel each leg yourself or hire someone to lead you. The project is still young, so stitching the smaller day trips into a single all-along-the-Mekong journey remains a challenge. Even so, it is an outstanding attempt to bring travellers to the life and nature of the river while channelling much-needed income to the communities living along it.

Best Time to Visit Mekong Discovery Trail#

Aim for November-February when trails and river access are most reliable and conditions are driest for outdoor activities.
