How to Get to Malatapay
Malatapay (Zamboanguita, Negros Oriental) is the main jump-off to Apo Island and is reached via Dumaguete/Sibulan Airport (DGT) or by road from Dumaguete city. Land transfers are short; boats to Apo Island depart from the Malatapay pier.
Dumaguete / Sibulan Airport (DGT): Fly into Sibulan (Dumaguete) then take a short land transfer to Malatapay (Zamboanguita); the drive from Dumaguete city to Malatapay port is roughly 20-30 minutes. Taxis or tricycles are common for this short hop - fares are modest (see land options).
Via Cebu / other hubs: Many travellers arrive via Cebu or Manila with connecting flights to Dumaguete; schedules can limit same-day boat departures so plan accordingly for trips to Apo Island from Malatapay.
Train: There is no train service in Negros Oriental.
Bus / jeepney / tricycle: Regular jeepneys and buses run between Dumaguete city and Zamboanguita/Malatapay; the jeepney trip takes about 30-45 minutes and is very affordable (single-digit to low double-digit PHP). Tricycles provide the last-mile transfer to the Malatapay dock.
