How to Get to Lija#
Lija is a small, centrally located Maltese locality close to Attard and Birkirkara, easily reached from Malta International Airport by taxi or public bus. The Tallinja bus network covers the town with frequent connections to Valletta and neighbouring villages.
Malta International Airport (MLA): Arrive at Luqa and continue to Lija by taxi (about 10-15 minutes, roughly €12-20) or by public bus via a short transfer to nearby stops. Buses from the airport to central Malta run frequently; a single cash fare is commonly about €2 and journey times to Lija are typically 15-25 minutes depending on route and transfers.
Train: Malta has no rail services.
Bus: Lija is well served by Malta Public Transport (Tallinja) buses with direct links to Valletta, Birkirkara and other towns. Buses are inexpensive (around €2 single cash fare) and run frequently during the day; use the Tallinja app or local timetables for exact route numbers and times.

Use Tallinja buses for budget travel and taxis for convenience in Lija. A hire car helps if you want to explore the island beyond central Malta, but walking covers the village itself.
- Tallinja buses (€2 single) - Buses are the mainstay of local transport and connect Lija with Valletta, Birkirkara and other central towns. They are economical and cover most destinations-peak traffic can slow journeys so allow extra time when travelling across the island.
- Taxi / ride-hailing (€10-25) - Taxis offer a quick and direct way to reach Lija from the airport or for evening travel when buses are less frequent. Fares are reasonable for short island journeys and metered or fixed fares are common for airport pickups.
- Car hire (€25-60/day) - Renting a car is handy for day trips and exploring rural Malta; Lija makes a convenient base near central routes. Remember left-hand driving and limited parking in narrow historic streets.
