KV8 is the tomb of Pharaoh Merenptah located in the Valley of the Kings on the west bank of the Nile at Luxor. It belongs to the 19th Dynasty and dates to the late 13th century BC.
The tomb contains decorated corridors and a burial chamber with carved reliefs and royal cartouches associated with Merenptah; it is one of the numbered tombs in the Valley (KV8). The internal layout follows the funerary-architecture conventions of New Kingdom royal tombs and includes painted and carved scenes on surviving surfaces.
KV8 was constructed for Pharaoh Merenptah, son of Ramesses II, and used as his royal tomb in the late 13th century BC. Over time the tomb has been examined by Egyptologists and subject to conservation work to preserve its reliefs.
The tomb sits in the main Valley of the Kings on Luxor’s west bank, among the row of royal tombs excavated and studied by archaeologists; it is accessed from the Valley road that serves the site.
How to Get to KV8 #
KV8 is on the West Bank of Luxor (ancient Thebes). From Luxor, cross the Nile by ferry or bridge to the West Bank and take a short drive to the Valley of the Kings complex, where guided entry to individual tombs is arranged at the visitor center.
