About KV9

KV9 is an ancient Egyptian royal tomb in the Valley of the Kings on the west bank of the Nile opposite Luxor. It is associated with the later Ramesside period of the New Kingdom and is one of the larger numbered tombs in the valley.

  • Setting: Located in the Valley of the Kings, the tomb is part of the same cemetery area that contains the royal burials of the New Kingdom near modern Luxor.

How to Get to KV9

KV9 is in the central Valley of the Kings on Luxor’s West Bank. From Luxor city, take a short taxi or organized tour across the Nile to the West Bank; the Valley has a parking and visitor centre where tickets and guides are available. The site is best reached via organized West Bank tours that include transport and licensed guides.

Tips for Visiting KV9

  • Buy a combined West Bank ticket and check which tombs are included that day - rotation systems sometimes close certain tombs for conservation.
  • Visit early in the day to avoid afternoon heat and for better light in the tomb corridors.
  • Hire a licensed guide at the West Bank entrance to explain the scenes in KV9 and to put Ramesses V and VI in historical context.
