How to Get to Kuressaare
Kuressaare (Saaremaa island) is reached by small regional flights to Kuressaare Airport (URE) when available, or by combined coach and ferry services from Tallinn or Pärnu. There is no rail connection to the island.
Kuressaare Airport (URE): Kuressaare has a small regional airport with scheduled flights to Tallinn (seasonal/limited). Check current timetables as services can be limited to summer months.
Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport (TLL): Tallinn is the main international gateway; from Tallinn you can fly to Kuressaare (when flights operate) or travel by car/bus and ferry connections (see By Train & Bus).
Train: There is no train to Kuressaare; Saaremaa island is not connected to Estonia’s rail network.
Bus & Ferry: To reach Kuressaare from the mainland, take a bus from Tallinn or Pärnu to Muhu (Virtsu) then ferry to Kuivastu (Muhu), followed by a short bus ride to Kuressaare. Direct coach services often combine the ferry leg; journey time from Tallinn is about 3-4 hours and fares typically €10-€20.
How to Get Around Kuressaare #
Kuressaare’s compact old town and castle area are very walkable; biking is popular for getting around the island.
