Karmir Blur Archaeological Site

Karmir Blur is an archaeological mound and site in Ararat Province, Armenia associated with Iron Age fortified settlement remains. It is commonly identified with an Urartian fortress-city known from archaeological study.

The site contains ruined fortification walls, building foundations and material culture recovered during excavations, with finds dating to the 8th-7th centuries BCE that illustrate Urartian urban and military architecture. Finds from the site have been important for understanding regional Iron Age settlement.

Karmir Blur was occupied during the Iron Age as part of the Urartian cultural and political sphere; it was investigated by archaeological teams in the 20th century, which documented its fortifications and recovered pottery, metalwork and structural remains.
