How to Get to Vagharshapat#
Vagharshapat (Etchmiadzin) is a short road trip from Yerevan and is normally reached via Zvartnots Airport (EVN) with a taxi or marshrutka onward. The town is well connected by frequent minibuses from Yerevan’s bus stations.
Zvartnots International Airport - Yerevan (EVN): Zvartnots is the main international gateway for Armenia. From EVN to Vagharshapat (Etchmiadzin) it’s roughly a 30-45 minute drive; taxis cost roughly 3,000-5,000 AMD and take about 30-45 minutes depending on traffic. Some hotels offer airport transfers.
Shirak/Other: There are no closer international airports to Vagharshapat; arrivals usually come through Yerevan (EVN) and continue by road.
Train: Armenia’s passenger rail network is very limited for regional travel and does not provide a practical route to Vagharshapat.
Bus / Marshrutka: Marshrutkas depart regularly from Yerevan (Karapetian/central bus stations) to Vagharshapat (Etchmiadzin). The trip takes about 30-45 minutes and fares are low (a few hundred AMD); taxis from Yerevan are faster but more expensive.

- Car rental / Private driver (From ~10,000 AMD/day) - Renting a car or hiring a driver provides flexibility for visiting Etchmiadzin and nearby religious and archaeological sites. Roads between Yerevan and Vagharshapat are in good condition on main routes.
