Zvartnots International Airport (EVN): Yerevan’s main airport is the usual arrival point for visitors to Sevan. From Zvartnots you can take a taxi into Yerevan (≈20-30 minutes) then continue to Sevan by road. A taxi from the airport to central Yerevan costs roughly 2,500-4,000 AMD depending on the company and time; from Yerevan you’ll switch to a marshrutka or private transfer for the onward journey.
(No dedicated airport at Sevan): There is no commercial airport in Sevan; the Zvartnots hub is the practical gateway for air arrivals.
Train: There is no regular direct intercity passenger rail service to Sevan; rail services in Armenia are limited and most travel is by road. The nearest major rail hub is Yerevan Railway Station for any longer rail journeys.
Bus / Marshrutka: Frequent marshrutka minibuses run from Yerevan to Sevan from points near the city centre and certain metro stations (departures often from the Kilikia or nearby marshrutka stops). Travel time is about 1-1.5 hours depending on traffic; fares are inexpensive (typically in the low hundreds to around 1,000 AMD). Taxis and private transfers are faster and convenient if travelling with luggage.
How to Get Around Sevan, Armenia#
The best way to reach and move around Sevan is by road: marshrutka for budget travel, taxis for convenience and car hire for full flexibility. Walking covers the town centre and lakeshore attractions.
- Marshrutka (minibus) (~500-1,000 AMD) - Marshrutkas from Yerevan to Sevan are frequent and the cheapest public option. They depart from designated marshrutka stops in the city and take about 60-90 minutes depending on traffic. Seats fill quickly in summer-arrive early for weekend or holiday trips.
- Taxi / Private transfer (~5,000-15,000 AMD (depending on vehicle and route)) - Taxis provide a direct, faster door‑to‑door service and are useful with luggage or on tight schedules. Expect the journey from Yerevan to take about an hour; agree a price up front or use a reputable taxi service. Shared taxis can reduce costs.
- Intercity bus (~800-1,500 AMD) - Some scheduled coach services run between Yerevan and regional towns, including Sevan, with fixed timetables and larger coaches. These are more comfortable than marshrutkas for longer trips but less frequent. Check Armenia’s ticketing sites or the local bus station for schedules.
- Car hire (~30-60 EUR/day (hire)) - Renting a car gives freedom to explore Lake Sevan’s shoreline and nearby monasteries at your own pace. Roads are generally serviceable; parking around the lake and at popular attractions can be limited during summer weekends. Fuel and rental costs are modest compared with Western Europe.
- Bicycle / E‑bike (~5-20 EUR/day (hire)) - Biking around parts of the Sevan peninsula is popular in good weather-there are scenic stretches, but expect exposed roads and some steep sections. Bring sun protection and water as services thin out away from the town.
- Walking - Sevan town and the immediate lakeshore area are easily explored on foot; promenades and lakeside cafes are all within walking distance. For longer hikes around the peninsula, plan for uneven paths and limited facilities.
