How to Get to Kandava#
Kandava is best approached from Riga (RIX) or by rail to Tukums followed by a short bus/taxi. The town is small and local buses or taxis handle the final leg; renting a car is convenient for exploring the surrounding countryside.
Riga International Airport (RIX): Riga is the main airport for western Latvia including Kandava (about 100-120 km). From RIX you can rent a car (driving time ~1.5-2 hours) or take rail/bus services to Tukums and then a local bus or taxi to Kandava (see below).
Liepāja Airport (LPX): Liepāja is farther but may be used for some regional routes; transfers from LPX to Kandava take longer and are less frequent than from Riga, so Riga is the preferred gateway for most travellers.
Train: The closest railway hubs are Tukums and sometimes Tukums II (Tukums II/1) with connections to Riga. From Tukums a local bus or taxi reaches Kandava (about 20-30 minutes).
Bus: Regional buses connect Kandava with Tukums and other nearby towns; bus services are the standard public option for reaching Kandava from rail hubs. Expect short journeys (20-40 minutes) and low fares; check local timetables for exact departures.

Use Riga (RIX) and the rail link to Tukums as the main approach; then take a short bus or taxi to Kandava. For maximum flexibility rent a car at Riga Airport.
- Train to Tukums + bus/taxi (€1.50-€6 (combined)) - Take a train from Riga to Tukums (Tukums I or Tukums II depending on service) then change to a local bus or taxi to Kandava. Rail is comfortable and the onward road transfer is short (about 20-30 minutes).
- Regional bus (Tukums-Kandava) (€1-€3) - Regional buses run between Tukums and Kandava; they are inexpensive and typically take 20-40 minutes. Schedules vary by day so check local timetables, especially outside peak hours.
- Taxi (€10-€40) - Taxis from Tukums or Riga provide faster door-to-door transfers; useful if you have luggage or arrive late. Expect moderate fares for the short distances involved but confirm the price beforehand.
- Car hire (€25+/day (rental)) - Renting a car at Riga Airport is the most flexible way to reach Kandava and explore Kurzeme and Zemgale regions. Roads are generally in good condition and parking in Kandava is easy.
- Bicycle - Kandava is noted for scenic cycling routes and cycling is popular locally - a pleasant way to explore the rural surroundings during warmer months.
