High / low are average daily temperatures (°C). “Feels” reflects how hot or cold it feels, allowing for humidity.
Sumatra (Northern and Western Sumatra)
June brings warm, humid days with considerably less rain than the early year; the lowlands feel tropical but the highlands of Berastagi and the Lake Toba rim are comfortably cooler at night. This is a practical month for overland exploration from Padang to the Mentawai ferry points; beaches on the west coast are usable, though ocean swells can still be present. Expect clearer roads, more predictable boat crossings and active outdoor options.
Java & Bali (Central and Eastern Java, Bali, Lombok)
June is pleasantly dry and warm across Java and Bali, which is why international arrivals begin to spike - Ubud, Seminyak and Yogyakarta see noticeably more tourists. Volcano treks are comfortable in the cool mornings and afternoons are good for beaches and temple visits. If you want fewer people, schedule morning visits to Borobudur before tour buses arrive and book popular dome stays around Bromo well in advance.
Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo)
June is among the drier months in many parts of Kalimantan, offering more comfortable windows for jungle camps and orangutan tours. Daytime heat is still tropical, but mornings and evenings are less oppressive without constant rain. Note that reduced river depths can change landing points and require transfers from boats to smaller longboats; plan with flexible timing and local guidance.
Sulawesi & the Maluku Islands
June sees stable, mostly dry conditions across large parts of Sulawesi and the central Maluku islands; this is a comfortable time for diving around Bunaken and for exploring Makassar’s coastline. Inland Toraja has dry trails ideal for trekking and village visits. Travellers will find more predictable ferry timetables and clearer mornings for photography, though pack sun protection for hot lowland days.
Nusa Tenggara & Komodo (Lombok, Sumbawa, Flores, Sumba, Komodo National Park)
June is comfortably dry and windy, making it a good month for sailing, snorkeling, and trekking across Flores and Lombok. Komodo’s calving beaches and Pink Beach show good conditions and underwater visibility improves for divers. This is early high season for the region - book liveaboards and popular day trips in advance - and carry sun protection for very hot midday periods.
Papua (Western New Guinea: Highlands and Coastal Papua, Raja Ampat area)
June is generally drier in the highlands and some coastal areas, with favorable conditions for multitown overland journeys and cultural festivals in the Baliem Valley. Sea conditions around the Raja Ampat fringes are often calmer, improving boat-based diving and island-hopping. Travellers should still be prepared for sudden showers and short-term cancellations, but many operators find June to be one of the friendliest months for access.
