How to Get to Hvar (town)

Hvar town is accessed by ferry or high‑speed catamaran from Split after arriving at Split Airport (SPU) or by boat from other Dalmatian ports. Once on Hvar, walking and scooters are the most practical ways to get around the compact town.

By Air

Split Airport (SPU): Split is the primary airport for reaching Hvar. From SPU you travel to Split city (bus or taxi ~30-45 minutes) and then take a catamaran or ferry to Hvar town: fast catamarans take about 1-1.5 hours and cost roughly 70-150 HRK (€9-20) for foot passengers. Taxis from SPU to Split ferry port cost around 200-350 HRK depending on vehicle and time.

Zagreb / Dubrovnik connections: There are no scheduled flights to Hvar town itself; travellers may also arrive via Dubrovnik (longer transfer) or by land/sea from the Dalmatian coast during summer timetables.

By Train & Bus

Train: There is no rail service to Hvar - the island is reached by ferry/catamaran from Split or other ports.

Bus: Buses from Split run to the ferry terminals (Stari Grad / Split harbour); bus + ferry combinations are common. On Hvar Island, local buses connect Hvar town with Stari Grad and inland villages; expect short fares (tens of HRK) and variable seasonal timetables.

How to Get Around Hvar (town) #

Hvar town is compact and easily explored on foot; the harbour, main square and fort are all walkable.
