Conakry & Maritime Coast
October brings the end of the main wet season along the coast; showers decrease in frequency and Conakry starts to dry out. Mornings and evenings become noticeably fresher as humidity drops, and ferries to Îles de Los resume steadier timetables. This is a sensible time for coastal travel before the dry season fully sets in - pack light rain gear for early month residual showers.
Fouta Djallon Highlands (Labé, Dalaba, Mamou)
October brings noticeably fewer showers and the highlands settle into a comfortable, cooler period with crisp mornings and warm afternoons. Trails firm up quickly, making it one of the best months for multi-day treks to waterfalls and plateaus; villages like Dalaba become pleasant bases for walking. Bring layers: afternoons can be sunny but mornings and evenings are cool.
Guinée Forestière (Southeast - Nzérékoré, Monts Nimba)
October sees clearer skies and a noticeable reduction in rainfall as the seasonal pulse ends; days are warm and evenings pleasant under the canopy. This period is excellent for longer treks and for using Nzérékoré as a base to explore surrounding forests and cultural sites. Bring lightweight waterproofs for the occasional late-season shower, but otherwise expect improving trail conditions.
Upper Guinea & Inland Savannah (Kankan, Siguiri, Kouroussa)
October brings much drier weather and pleasant travel conditions across the savanna; daytime heat moderates and nights are comfortable. Many rural tracks become passable again and market activity picks up as harvests finish. It’s a good time for overland travel and cultural visits to towns such as Kouroussa and Siguiri before the cool season arrives.
