Conakry & Maritime Coast

July sees heavy, frequent rain and the coastal environment is lush but wet; Conakry’s drainage can be overwhelmed by back-to-back storms, leading to localised flooding and power interruptions. Days remain warm; humidity is high and windows tend to stay shut against bugs and rain. If your plan includes the fisheries or trips along the peninsula, factor in delays and choose accommodations that handle heavy weather well.

Fouta Djallon Highlands (Labé, Dalaba, Mamou)

July is in the heart of the wet season and the hills are lush, though persistent rain limits long-distance treks and increases leeches in shaded grasslands. Waterfalls are at their fullest and landscape photography is rewarding if you can tolerate intermittent rain; local transport runs but with delays on secondary roads. Take a robust rain jacket and waterproof pack liners, and plan shorter treks that can be reached even after heavy downpours.

Guinée Forestière (Southeast - Nzérékoré, Monts Nimba)

July sees persistent heavy rainfall that can limit long treks; the Monts Nimba region receives cloud and mist often, with cooler temperatures on higher slopes but saturated ground everywhere. While the scenery and birdlife are excellent, logistical challenges increase - expect washed-out trails and limited campsite availability. Ensure you carry waterproof storage for electronics and be ready to change plans at short notice.

Upper Guinea & Inland Savannah (Kankan, Siguiri, Kouroussa)

July stays wet with frequent heavy rains that sometimes lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas near river banks; Kankan’s markets remain lively but travel can be slow. The rains make for dramatic skies and lush landscapes, however overland travel across secondary routes is best done with a sturdy vehicle. Mosquito protection becomes essential as standing water increases.
