Where to Base Yourself in Georgia as a Digital Nomad

Five Georgian bases for remote workers compared: Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi, Kazbegi and Gudauri, with costs, seasons and who each suits.

Most nomads in Georgia live in Tbilisi, with Batumi a summer alternative. This page compares them with three other bases.

The costs are ballpark figures for a comfortable month for one person in a furnished apartment, eating out often, with coworking, transport and a social life.

Tbilisi#

The capital has the country’s nomad community, coworking spaces, cafes, wine bars, sulphur baths and a creative scene, in an old town of wooden balconies and churches. See the Tbilisi digital nomad guide.

Batumi#

The Black Sea resort, with a long seafront boulevard, low costs and a summer buzz. Wet and quiet in winter. See the Batumi digital nomad guide.

Kutaisi#

Georgia’s third city is small and cheap, with UNESCO monasteries nearby and an airport with low-cost flights to Europe. Few foreigners live here.

Kazbegi (Stepantsminda)#

A mountain village under Mount Kazbek and the hilltop Gergeti Trinity Church, three hours from Tbilisi. Spectacular for a summer of hiking; internet works in guesthouses.

Gudauri#

Georgia’s main ski resort, two hours from Tbilisi, with apartments, cheap lift passes and a winter community of remote-working skiers.

Choosing Your Base#

  • Tbilisi all year, Batumi in summer, Gudauri in winter.
  • Check internet before booking mountain stays.
  • Budget for transport: marshrutkas and trains are cheap but slow.
