How to Get to Enkomi#
Enkomi (in Famagusta District) is most easily reached via Larnaca International Airport (LCA), with onward bus or taxi links into the Famagusta area. Ercan Airport in Northern Cyprus is an alternative for travellers coming via Turkey, but border-crossing logistics differ.
Larnaca International Airport (LCA): Larnaca is the main international airport for Famagusta District and is the most convenient arrival point for Enkomi. From Larnaca Airport you can take an intercity bus toward Famagusta/Ammochostos (Intercity Buses), a dedicated airport shuttle, or a taxi; bus fares to Famagusta are typically around €4-€6 and take about 40-60 minutes depending on traffic.
Ercan International Airport (ECN): Ercan (in Northern Cyprus) is used by flights from Turkey; services from Ercan to Famagusta/Enkomi require crossing the UN buffer zone and usually involve a shuttle or taxi-check border-crossing rules and connections before travelling. Shuttle prices and times vary by operator.
Bus / Intercity Buses Cyprus: Larnaca-Famagusta routes are served by Cyprus intercity buses and private airport shuttles. From Famagusta central points you can take local buses or taxis to reach Enkomi; expect bus fares around €3-€7 and journey times under an hour from Larnaca.
Train: Cyprus does not have an active national passenger rail network; all regional travel around Enkomi and Famagusta is by bus, taxi or car.
How to Get Around Enkomi#
There is no rail service on Cyprus - travel to Enkomi is by air to Larnaca followed by intercity bus, shuttle or taxi. For flexibility and site-hopping a rental car works best; for budget travellers the intercity bus network plus local buses is reliable and inexpensive.
- Intercity buses (€3-7) - Intercity Buses (government-run and private lines) connect Larnaca, Nicosia and Famagusta. They are cheap, reasonably reliable and a good choice for budget travellers. From Famagusta central stops, local buses or taxis can reach Enkomi.
- Airport shuttle (Kapnos or private) (€8-20) - Kapnos Airport Shuttle and other private shuttles link Larnaca Airport with major towns. Shuttles are convenient if you prefer a direct transfer and carry luggage-book in advance when possible.
- Taxi (€30-60) - Taxis provide door-to-door service from Larnaca or Famagusta and are useful for late arrivals or if you have a lot of luggage. Taxis are significantly quicker than buses but cost more-confirm the fare or request a meter.
- Car rental (€25-60/day) - Renting a car is the most flexible way to explore the east coast and archaeological sites near Enkomi. Roads are generally in good condition; parking in Famagusta can be limited in busy areas.
- Local buses / dolmuses (€1-3) - Local bus routes and shared taxis operate within the Famagusta area for short hops to neighbourhoods and nearby sites. These are cheap and frequent but may not run late at night.
- Walking - Enkomi and nearby archaeological sites are compact and often best seen on foot once you are in the area. Bring sun protection and water during summer walks.
