Hala Sultan Tekke is an Ottoman-era Muslim shrine and mosque complex on the outskirts of Larnaca, Cyprus, built around the tomb venerated as that of Umm Haram, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad. It is an important Islamic pilgrimage site on the island.

The complex comprises a domed tomb chamber, mosque buildings and a minaret set within a walled precinct with gardens and shaded courtyards. The nearby Larnaca Salt Lake provides a contrasting landscape and seasonal birdlife for visitors.

The site became an established shrine under Ottoman rule and has been maintained as a place of Muslim devotion and pilgrimage since that period. Successive repairs and additions have shaped the present mosque and enclosure.

Hala Sultan Tekke sits on the western shore of the Larnaca Salt Lake, to the west of the city of Larnaca on Cyprus’s southern coast, within Larnaca District.

• Time your visit to Hala Sultan Tekke for late afternoon-this is when the adjacent Larnaca Salt Lake often has visible flamingo flocks in winter months and the light makes the shrine and salt flats especially photogenic.
• Enter via the main access road from the Larnaca-Larnaca Airport direction and follow signage for the Hala Sultan Tekke car park; the shrine is tightly integrated with the salt lake site so combine both for a short visit.
• Respect the modest dress expectations and the peaceful, religious nature of the site; many visitors miss the viewpoint across the road where you can get uninterrupted photos of the shrine framed by the lake and its birdlife.
