How to Get to Charentsavan

Charentsavan is best reached via Yerevan's Zvartnots International Airport (EVN) and then by road northwards. Rail options are limited - regional buses and shared minibuses (marshrutkas) from Yerevan are the usual way into town.

By Air

Zvartnots International Airport (EVN): About 50 km south of Charentsavan. From Zvartnots you can take a taxi to Charentsavan (about 45-60 minutes) for roughly 8,000-12,000 AMD; prebooked private transfers cost similar. There is no direct airport bus to Charentsavan - travel by taxi or via Yerevan then onward by minibus.

Shirak International Airport (LWN): Located near Gyumri, much farther (≈120-140 km). A taxi from Shirak to Charentsavan is long and expensive (several tens of thousands AMD); this airport is only practical if you plan a multi-stop route through northern Armenia.

By Train & Bus

Train: Charentsavan does not have frequent long-distance rail services; the main rail hub for the region is Yerevan Railway Station (Yerevan). Trains between Yerevan and northern Armenian towns are limited; if travelling by rail, go via Yerevan and then use buses/marshrutkas north.

Bus / Marshrutka: Regular marshrutkas and regional buses run between Yerevan (Northern Bus Station / Kilikia bus stops) and Charentsavan. Expect a journey time of about 50-75 minutes from Yerevan and fares in the range of ~500-1,000 AMD depending on vehicle and departure point. Local taxis from Yerevan to Charentsavan are quicker but cost more.

How to Get Around Charentsavan #

Charentsavan is compact and easily explored on foot around the central streets and markets. For travel beyond the centre you’ll mainly use local minibuses (marshrutkas) and shared taxis that link to nearby towns and to larger hubs; conventional taxis are available but less frequent. Carry cash for fares, expect very low local prices, and allow extra time on weekends when services run less often. Cycling is possible but bike infrastructure is limited; wear visible clothing if you ride after dusk.
