How to Get to Ceiba, Puerto Rico

Ceiba (Ceiba barrio-pueblo) on Puerto Rico's northeast coast is most practically reached by road from San Juan or by small commercial flights into Ceiba's local airfield. The town is also a ferry gateway to Culebra and Vieques.

By Air

Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU, San Juan): San Juan is the main international gateway for Puerto Rico. From SJU you can rent a car or take a taxi/shuttle to Ceiba; driving time to Ceiba is roughly 1-1.5 hours depending on traffic and route (no regular direct airport shuttle is guaranteed). Taxi fares can be substantial; a rental car is the most flexible option.

Jose Aponte de la Torre Airport / Ceiba (RVR): Ceiba’s local airport (RVR) handles limited commercial and charter flights; if you can land here you are within a short drive or taxi ride of the town centre and the ferry terminal for Culebra and Vieques.

By Train & Bus

Train: Puerto Rico has no island-wide passenger rail service for intercity travel; trains are not an option.

Bus / Ferry: There are public and private bus routes on the main island (AMA buses) but services are limited outside metropolitan San Juan. Ceiba is best reached by car or intercity bus to the eastern coast, or by private shuttle. Important: Ceiba’s port (Puerto de Ceiba / La Esperanza) operates ferries to Culebra and Vieques - check the Puerto Rico Maritime Transport Authority (ATM) or private operators for schedules and fares.

How to Get Around Ceiba, Puerto Rico #

Ceiba’s downtown is walkable for short trips; many visitors rely on rental cars to reach beaches and neighbouring towns. Taxis operate locally but can be sparse outside peak hours; check schedules for any ferry or small-craft services to nearby islands before you travel. Public transit within the island is limited-plan transfers and onward connections in advance rather than assuming high-frequency service.
