How to Get to Castillos
Castillos in Rocha Department is most commonly reached by road from Montevideo (MVD) or Punta del Este (PDP) via long‑distance bus or private car. There is no practical passenger rail service; buses provide the main public transport connection.
Carrasco International Airport (MVD): Montevideo’s Carrasco (MVD) is the main international airport for eastern Uruguay; from Montevideo you can reach Castillos by long‑distance bus or car - the road journey typically takes around 2.5-3.5 hours depending on traffic and route.
Punta del Este / Laguna del Sauce (PDP): Punta del Este (PDP) / Laguna del Sauce is closer for some travellers; from PDP you can drive or take a bus to Castillos in roughly 1-1.5 hours depending on service and traffic. PDP handles seasonal international flights and is useful in high season.
Train: Uruguay’s passenger rail network is very limited and not a practical option to reach Castillos.
