How to Get to Lascano#
Lascano is a small town in Rocha Department best reached by road from Montevideo or Punta del Este. Long-distance coaches to Rocha and regional buses or taxis are the normal onward connections; rail is not a practical option.
Capitán de Corbeta Carlos A. Curbelo International (PDP) / Punta del Este: Lascano is in Rocha Department; the nearest significant airports are Punta del Este (PDP) and Carrasco International (MVD) in Montevideo. From Punta del Este the drive to Lascano is around 1.5-2.5 hours by road; from Montevideo it’s about 2.5-4 hours depending on traffic and route.
Montevideo (MVD): Carrasco Airport offers the most flight options; from Montevideo long-distance buses or rental cars are the typical onward choices to Lascano (3-4 hours).
Train: Uruguay’s passenger rail network is very limited and does not reliably serve Lascano.
Bus: Long-distance bus services run from Montevideo and Punta del Este to Rocha and nearby towns; from Rocha city you can catch regional buses or taxis to Lascano (journey times vary but are generally under 2 hours from Rocha). Bus travel is the standard public option across Rocha Department.

Lascano is most practically reached by bus or car from Montevideo or Punta del Este. Within the town walking covers daily needs while regional buses and taxis serve longer journeys to neighbouring localities.
- Long-distance bus (UYU 300-1500) - Intercity buses from Montevideo and Punta del Este serve Rocha Department; use the main bus terminals to find services. Buses are comfortable and a common way to travel between Uruguayan cities and towns.
- Regional bus / colectivo (UYU 80-400) - Regional buses and colectivos run between Rocha city and smaller towns like Lascano. Timetables are adequate for day travel but check weekend schedules in advance.
- Taxi / private transfer (UYU 600-3000) - Taxis and private transfers provide direct travel to Lascano from nearby hubs and are useful for groups or when schedules don’t align. Negotiate the fare up front for longer trips.
- Car rental (UYU 1200-4000/day) - Renting a car from Montevideo or Punta del Este is convenient for exploring Rocha’s coastline and interior; distances are modest but roads can be rural. A car gives full flexibility for beaches and nearby natural attractions.
