How to Get to La Aguada y Costa Azul
La Aguada y Costa Azul (Rocha Department) is served by Uruguay's national bus network from Montevideo (Terminal Tres Cruces) and by road from Punta del Este. Buses are the main public transport; trains are not a practical option.
Carrasco International Airport (MVD): Montevideo’s Carrasco is the main international gateway for Uruguay. From Montevideo you travel by road to Rocha Department - most visitors take a long-distance bus from Terminal Tres Cruces (see below) or rent a car for a scenic coastal drive.
Punta del Este (PDP): Punta del Este / Maldonado airport is another option in high season; from there the road transfer to Rocha coastal towns is shorter than from Montevideo but still requires a bus or car transfer.
Train: Uruguay has very limited passenger rail connections-buses are the practical option for reaching coastal resorts in Rocha.
Bus: Long-distance buses depart Terminal Tres Cruces (Montevideo) toward Rocha and coastal settlements such as La Paloma, Rocha city and other seaside destinations. From Rocha city a local bus or taxi will reach enclaves like La Aguada y Costa Azul. Journey times from Montevideo are commonly 3-4 hours depending on final stop; fares are usually in the UYU low hundreds to mid-hundreds.
