Brunei-Muara & Bandar Seri Begawan (North coast and capital)
February often brings one of the year’s wettest stretches as the northeast monsoon is still active; heavy, sustained showers can flood small streets in Muara and the old water village. National Day (Feb 23) draws crowds and can mean sunny patches in between torrents, but prepare for heat and humidity under parade crowds and bring sun protection along with a poncho. Boat rides on the Brunei River run unless winds are strong.
Belait District (Kuala Belait, Seria and the west coast)
February tends to keep the coast wet under the influence of the northeast monsoon, with persistent showers that can make beach access tricky around Kuala Belait. Local events and markets move indoors during prolonged wet spells, but industrial tours and indoor attractions remain possible. Check road conditions before heading to the Seria oilfields - occasional standing water on smaller roads is common.
Tutong District and Central Coast
February tends to be wet with regular heavy rain and the northeast monsoon in full effect; coastal headlands are windy and small beaches may be littered with seaweed and debris after storms. Local weekend traffic to beaches slows when weather is poor, so plan indoor visits or shorter drives. The Tutong River’s water level rises quickly - river boat trips can be dramatic but occasionally suspended for safety.
Temburong District & Ulu Temburong (eastern exclave, rainforest and canopy)
February keeps the rainforest saturated with regular heavy downpours and cloudier skies; birdlife remains active between storms and river wildlife tours reveal strong currents. Road access from Bandar Seri Begawan via ferry and land border points can be slower after intense rain. Pack waterproof gear and a high-quality insect repellent - the rainforest feels densest now and trails can be muddy.
Interior Highlands and Bukit Pagon area (upland rainforest and higher elevations)
February is similarly wet and misty in the highlands; ascents toward Bukit Pagon are often damp and cool, and trailhead flooding can slow access. If you’re targeting mountain hikes, plan for slower progress and expect long stretches of cloud that obscure views. The cool nights are a relief from coastal humidity but layers are necessary to stay comfortable.
