Flights to BOC take about 1 hour; overland bus journeys to Almirante take several hours via David and Changuinola if you prefer ground travel.
Train: Panama has no passenger rail connection serving Bocas del Toro or Almirante.
Bus: Overland travel from David or Panama City to Almirante is possible with interprovincial buses or shared shuttles; road travel times are long (6-10+ hours from Panama City) and require a transfer at Changuinola/Almirante. Local water taxis connect Almirante to the nearby islands; these short boat hops are the standard local link and run frequently.

Almirante is small and easy to explore on foot; the town’s pier is the main transport hub for water taxis to Bocas del Toro islands. Land travel uses shared minibuses and occasional taxis-services can be infrequent, so plan boat and bus connections in advance and keep cash on hand.
